The American company Radia is behind this new, extraordinary device. Its model was recently revealed at the Paris Air Show.
The project? To build the world's largest and most voluminous cargo plane. The WindRunner (as it has been named) is no less than 7,700 cubic meters and has a payload capacity 12 times that of a Boeing 747, according to the media outlet Demotivateur. Furthermore, the aircraft is capable of carrying up to 80 tons. At 24 meters high, 108 meters long, and with a wingspan of 100 meters, WindRunner is the largest cargo plane ever built in the world.
What will it be used for? The aircraft could be used for missions in the defense, renewable energy, humanitarian aid, or aerospace sectors. It could, in particular, be used to transport wind turbine blades to improve their performance.
A Key Market
Radia, with its WindRunner project, has been able to sign partnerships with several major groups in Spain and Italy. The company is also considering expanding into France and Germany.
“France is a key market for Radia's future—not only as a center of aerospace excellence, but also as a strategic partner in the fields of energy and defense innovation,” emphasized Mark Lemke, Vice President of Supply Chain at Radia, in an interview with 01Net.
Furthermore, Radia states that it will do everything possible to minimize its environmental impact.
