While on a mission in Egypt, Maryvonne's husband mysteriously disappeared.

Gilbert Bréant, originally from Angers in western France, was a professional soldier. On 24 March 1969, his wife Maryvonne received terrible news announcing her husband's death in Egypt. His plane had allegedly disappeared in the Mediterranean Sea. According to army officials, Gilbert might also have been held captive somewhere in Egypt. A glimmer of hope... However, the circumstances surrounding this disappearance remain very unclear.

Solo investigations

For 50 years, Maryvonne has moved mountains to understand what happened to her husband. Through conducting her own research, she's about to uncover the whole story. To find out if Gilbert is truly dead, she contacts the family of a Swiss pilot who was on the plane at the time of the disappearance, reports the media outlet Demotivateur. In reality, Gilbert was on a secret mission and his disappearance was considered a state secret. Maryvonne, aged 75, then holds all the keys to solving the mystery.

The Egyptian army responsible

On 7 September 2024, she receives a letter sent to the then Foreign Minister. In this document, she learns that the plane her husband was travelling in was likely shot down by the Egyptian army, and that Gilbert died alongside the Swiss pilot. The bodies, as well as the aircraft, have never been found.
