A Canadian lawmaker warned on Thursday that the Trump administration could deport Canadians and Europeans to a high-security prison in El Salvador.
The statement from Charlie Angus, a Canadian Member of Parliament, came after the U.S. deported 200 Venezuelans suspected of being gang members to the Central American country.
Trump invoked an 18th-century law to justify the deportations, though a federal judge has since ruled against the use of this law.
"We know if [Trump] can get away with this, there's no reason that a Canadian, or a German, or someone from UK isn't going to be picked up and deported to some El Salvadoran concentration camp", Angus said on Thursday.
"Because that is what's happening in the United States with the complete abdication of the rule of law. Canada is a country of the rule of law, Canada is a country of democracy. Canada must stand firm at this time. I urge people not to travel to the United States, but to keep the boycott, keep strong, because Canada will never kiss that gangster's ring," he added.
Angus is a fervent critic of Trump and recently mocked the head of state's "stupidity".
