A high-ranking Iranian commander has warned that U.S. military forces stationed in the Middle East could become targets if Washington launches an attack on Iran.

Tensions between the two nations have reached new heights following Donald Trump’s return to the White House, with the U.S. president threatening to "bomb" Tehran if it refuses to negotiate a new nuclear agreement.

Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) aerospace division, reminded the U.S. that its troops are in a vulnerable position in the region.

"It's like they're sitting in a glass house. And when you're in a glass house, you don't throw stones at others," he told state TV on Monday.

In 2018, the U.S. withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a deal that allowed Iran to develop nuclear capabilities within specific limits in exchange for sanction relief. Despite mounting economic pressure, Iran has ramped up its nuclear activities, insisting that its program is strictly for civilian use.

Although Trump recently sent a letter to Tehran, Iran has said that it will not negotiate directly with Washington and prefers to use an intermediary instead.
