A Russian commander has publicly urged Vladimir Putin to put an end to the war in Ukraine, which has now dragged on for over three years.

According to Kyiv, the Russian military has suffered nearly one million casualties since the invasion began in February 2022. Despite these losses, Russian forces gained only 0.6% of territory throughout 2024 — a minimal advance at a massive human cost.

The commander, reportedly serving in a unit near the city of Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk region, has now broken ranks by calling on the Kremlin to halt hostilities.

In a recent interview with prominent war blogger Maxim Kalashnikov, the commander was asked what he would do to win the war in Ukraine. His response was blunt: "I would stop the war altogether. Unfortunately, this war won’t end until we completely, stupidly kill each other. They are like us. They won’t give up, and we won’t give up. This will continue until we kill or maim each other — and then a third enemy will come and kill both of us."

"When you asked me a question about what I would do, I would just say: 'That's it! Stop!’ ", he added.
