In the current climate of political tensions, Europe has decided to strengthen its military capabilities. On the other hand, Moscow also counts its weapons and personnel.

On Monday, 10 March, the Russian submarine Krasnodar, intended to remain unnoticed, was spotted in the Mediterranean Sea. The Kilo class vessel is known for its ability to evade radar, while the American US Navy has even dubbed it the "black hole". Equipped with 11 cruise missiles (and usually based in the Black Sea), its reputation far exceeds borders.

Heading to the port of Alexandria

According to the Spanish Defence Staff, the Krasnodar was recently seen in the eastern Mediterranean. It was followed by the Spanish NATO frigate "Álvaro de Bazán" and escorted by the tug Evgeniy Churov during its transit to the port of Alexandria (in Egypt), as reported by the media outlet L’Indépendant.

It was in October 2023 that the Russian vessel was last seen in the Mediterranean Sea.
