A top advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned that American military bases used in recent operations against Iran are now considered "legitimate targets."
Following U.S. airstrikes on three sites suspected of nuclear activity, Tehran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and is reportedly weighing further retaliatory measures.
“Any country in the region or elsewhere that is used by U.S. forces to strike Iran will be considered a legitimate target for our armed forces,” said Ali Akbar Velayati, as quoted by Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
The advisor also called on the United States to withdraw from the Middle East, stating: “America has attacked the heart of the Islamic world and must expect irreversible consequences, as the Islamic Republic will not tolerate any insult or act of aggression against it.”
The Iranian parliament has already voted in favor of closing the Strait of Hormuz—a vital maritime route through which roughly 20% of global oil supply passes.
