According to the Wall Street Journal, members of Tesla’s executive board recently explored the idea of replacing Elon Musk, a revelation that sparked the billionaire’s outrage.

The report claims several executive search firms were contacted last month to identify a potential successor to Musk as CEO of the electric vehicle company.

Tesla board chair Robyn Denholm swiftly responded to the article, calling the claims “absolutely false” and reaffirming her full confidence in Musk’s leadership.

Musk reacted on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “It is an EXTREMELY BAD BREACH OF ETHICS that the @WSJ would publish a DELIBERATELY FALSE ARTICLE and fail to include an unequivocal denial beforehand by the Tesla board of directors!

Tesla’s stock and market value have taken a hit since the beginning of the year, partly due to Musk’s highly visible role in the Trump administration. As head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk recently announced he would scale back his involvement in government affairs starting this May.
