Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with CBS television that US President Donald Trump must see the destruction caused by the war in Ukraine for himself, before making a decision on the matter.

"Please, before making a decision, before negotiating, come and see the people, the civilians, the soldiers, the hospitals, the churches, the children", he said. At the same time, Zelensky emphasised that Trump, "being a strong president of a strong country", should side with Ukraine and not adopt a neutral position regarding the conflict.

On Sunday, Russian troops launched a missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy, killing more than thirty people, many of whom were civilians.
The US President's special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, condemned the strike: "The attack by Russian troops on civilian targets in Sumy on Palm Sunday crosses the lines of decency. Dozens of civilians were killed and injured."

For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron accused Russia of "blatant disregard for human lives, international law, and President Trump's diplomatic efforts".
