Negotiations for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia under the aegis of Donald Trump "are not easy," said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during a visit to the Ukrainian city of Odessa.
Rutte condemned the "terrible" Russian attacks on civilians. "These discussions are not easy, especially after these horrible violences," said Mr. Rutte alongside Ukrainian President, Mr. Volodymyr Zelensky.
"But we support all efforts by the [American] President [Donald] Trump for peace," added the head of NATO, who met the Ukrainian president in the port city.
These statements contrast with those of President Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, who stated on Monday - three days after a new meeting with Vladimir Putin - that the negotiations were "on the verge" of progressing.
