Attention: speed marathon across Europe on Wednesday

'Roadpol', a collaboration of various European police forces with 29 countries as members, is organising a speed camera marathon on Wednesday, 9th April. So, keep a close eye on your speed if you're on the road.

During the 'Speed Week', from 7th to 13th April, there will be more speed checks than usual across Europe. Wednesday marks the 22nd edition of the speed camera marathon starting at 6 a.m. For 24 hours, there will be increased speed enforcement. According to the press release from Roadpol, around 150,000 police officers will be deployed in "the world’s largest synchronized, organized, and comprehensive anti-speeding enforcement action" across more than 20 countries.

"Speeding remains the number one cause of fatal road collisions across Europe. According to recent data, over 25,000 road deaths occur annually in Europe, and excessive speed is a key factor in many of these cases", according to Roadpol.

During the previous Speed Marathon, more than 150,000 speeding violations were recorded in just 24 hours.
