Australia—particularly the city of Adelaide—has strongly opposed the proposed construction of a Tesla battery factory in the region.

The suburb of Marion, located in the southwest of the city, had been under consideration as a potential site for the plant.

The local council conducted a public consultation, outlining the benefits of hosting a large-scale facility, including the creation of around 100 jobs and a potential boost to local revenues and economic activity.

However, 95% of the responses submitted to the council urged officials to reject the proposal. Residents cited mistrust of Elon Musk, concerns over his influence on social media, and environmental impacts as key reasons for their opposition.

Supporters of the project highlighted the job creation potential and praised Musk’s "visionary leadership."

The world’s richest man has faced growing criticism for his involvement in the Trump administration and his controversial views both domestically and internationally.
