Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, has warned that Iran will deliver a "severe blow" if the United States or any other nation threatens its sovereignty. His remarks were broadcast on state television, reflecting the growing strain in relations between Tehran and Washington.
The warning follows Donald Trump's recent statements holding Iran accountable for attacks launched by the Houthi rebels in Yemen against commercial vessels in the Red Sea. The Houthis, who control large parts of Yemen, have escalated their military operations, particularly targeting Israel, prompting a strong response from the U.S.
Trump has also raised concerns over Iran's nuclear program, with Israel warning that it will not tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran. Despite these accusations, Khamenei dismissed suggestions that Iran operates through regional proxies.
"The Yemeni nation and resistance groups have their own motivations. Iran doesn't need proxies. If the U.S. or anyone else commits any malicious act against Iran, they will receive a severe blow," Khamenei said.
