Beijing has denied any involvement of Chinese fighters on the Ukrainian front, despite evidence publicly released by Kyiv this week.
Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned the Ukrainian government’s statements as "irresponsible" after Volodymyr Zelenskyy, citing intelligence reports, claimed that at least 155 Chinese nationals are currently fighting in Ukraine.
During a briefing, Jian insisted that China is not part of the conflict, which has been ongoing for more than three years.
"The Chinese government always instructs Chinese nationals to stay away from areas of armed conflict, avoid any form of involvement in armed conflicts, and, in particular, avoid participation in any party's military operations," he said.
"We call on the relevant party to take a correct and sober view of China’s role and refrain from making irresponsible remarks," he added.
