The "Deep" project is funded by an investor who has paid up to hundreds of millions of euros, but whose identity has not yet been disclosed.
The best experts in diving, marine biology, technology, construction, and investment are working tirelessly in a water-filled quarry at the border between Wales and England. It's the site selected to construct and test an underwater residential structure that will enable permanent human presence under the sea as from 2027.
The units can withstand pressures at depths of up to 200 meters, where sunlight fades and the twilight zone of the sea begins with all the creatures living in the depths.
The first experiments with underwater habitats were conducted in the 1960s. Today, thanks to new technologies, it's possible to continue these endeavors.
