A new project to explore the remains of the Titanic is currently being studied by American billionaire Larry Connor, in collaboration with Patrick Lahey, CEO of Triton Submarines.

The project comes just over a year after the tragedy of OceanGate's Titan submarine, which imploded in June 2023, killing five people and putting an end to this type of tourist expedition.

Connor and Lahey's idea is to demonstrate that a dive to the Titanic can be carried out safely with the appropriate technology. To do this, they will use a specially designed submersible from Triton Submarines, an acrylic submarine worth approximately $20 million (approximately €17.15 million) and capable of descending to a depth of more than 4,000 meters, surpassing the 3,800 meters at which the remains of the Titanic are located.

Ohio real estate investor and explorer Larry Connor says the goal is "to show the world that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and transformative if managed properly."
