The White House approached Greenland with great ambition. However, the local population appears anything but positive about the United States' attempt to absorb the autonomous territory. As a result, the visit of an American delegation had to be significantly shortened.

The American president set his sights on the autonomous territory under the Danish kingdom due to its mineral resources and the strategic location of the world's largest island. But Greenland has no desire to become part of the US. Earlier this month, Greenlandic political parties gathered to condemn what they described as American intentions to forcibly take over the area, despite it being part of the Danish kingdom.

And the planned visit of an American delegation this week only adds fuel to the fire. The wife of J.D. Vance, Usha, was sent to Greenland by the White House to win hearts and minds, but it turned out quite differently. She was even banned from a souvenir shop.

Visit becomes a complete catastrophe

The original programme, announced on Sunday, included visits to historical sites, an introduction to Greenlandic culture, and attending the Avannaata Qimussersu, the national dog sled race. But the White House eventually decided to cut the trip and planned programme significantly with its tail between its legs. The outgoing government on the island of Greenland reacted furiously. The American delegation was absolutely unwelcome, especially at a time when negotiations are underway for the coalition formation of a new government. No official Greenlandic delegation wanted to receive the Americans. The residents were equally outraged about the planned visit, which would increase the American pressure on the island.

On Friday, the local population is taking to the streets with the message 'Greenland is for Greenlanders'.

Incidentally, Trump reiterated on Wednesday that he "will have Greenland"... To be continued, undoubtedly.
