Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced a new plan to counter the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

A meeting was held this Friday by the Politburo to address the country’s economic situation, which has been suffering since the COVID-19 pandemic triggered a real estate crisis and an unusually high youth unemployment rate.

According to the state-run outlet Xinhua, the country’s economy has shown a “positive trend” despite the impact of the new American tariffs.

We must strengthen bottom-line thinking, fully prepare emergency plans and do a solid job in economic work,” the outlet reported, citing a readout from the meeting.

In response to Trump’s tariffs, Beijing pledged to “work with the international community to actively uphold multilateralism and oppose unilateral bullying practices.”

Meanwhile, President Trump claimed he had spoken directly with his Chinese counterpart in an effort to ease tensions—though Beijing has denied any such contact.

To protect businesses and workers from the fallout of Trump's aggressive trade policies, the Politburo has proposed measures including wage increases and expanded unemployment benefits.
