Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday described the conditions set by Russia for ending its invasion of Ukraine as unacceptable ultimatums, a sign of a deadlock in negotiations.
Faced with this situation, Mr Zelensky considered that continuing direct discussions with Russia in the current format would be pointless, as the meetings held in Istanbul had yielded little, and called for a meeting between Mr Putin and American President Donald Trump.
For his part, Donald Trump stated that he had spoken with Mr Putin and warned that there would be no "immediate peace". As he explained on his social network Truth Social, the Russian President told him "very forcefully" that Moscow was considering "responding" to attacks by Kiev forces on several Russian airfields over the weekend.
