Denmark has welcomed the decision by Donald Trump and his administration to postpone their visit to Greenland following outrage from the local population.

The official delegation was set to include Usha Vance, the wife of U.S. Vice President JD Vance, as well as Mike Waltz, the White House national security adviser.

After statements from Greenland's Prime Minister Múte B Egede and his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen, the American visit has been scaled down to a tour of the U.S. military base in Pituffik.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Denmark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, told the media outlet DR: "I actually think it is very positive that the Americans are canceling their visit to the Greenlandic community. Instead, they will visit their own base, Pituffik, and we have no objections to that."

On Tuesday, Frederiksen condemned what she described as "unacceptable pressure" from the Trump administration regarding the visit to the Arctic territory, which remains under Danish sovereignty.
