Following the trial of Gérard Depardieu for sexual assault, actress Vahina Giocante revealed the actions she witnessed on her social media.
After four tense days of trial, the Paris public prosecutor’s office has requested an 18-month suspended prison sentence against the French actor.
Vahina Giocante wanted to testify on her social media by addressing Depardieu.
"For a few days now, I've been following the news concerning you with intense discomfort, deep unease, and a certain disgust. I knew you a long time ago, on several film sets, and I admired you madly. I was lucky not to be one of your targets, lucky to be spared by the ogre, lucky to know your paternalism and your subtle intelligence, I would even say your extreme sensitivity almost akin to animal intuition, you are also that.
Aside from your overwhelming talent that no one questions because today it's not about the actor but the man, what remains of your values?
And if we talked about the man… I've seen with my own eyes your greasy hands slipping under the skirts of extras, who are muzzled by fear and astonishment. I've seen you make technicians and young actresses cry, who were more vulnerable. I've heard with my poor ears all the possible and imaginable foul and nasty comments you have yelled, growled, whispered. I've seen a man wallowing in the shame and terror of the weakest, insatiably feeding on every form of domination. I've seen entire teams being held hostage by the unbearable embarrassment that these words and gestures caused. Gérard, you see provocation as an art form, but it's mainly a vital need for attention, even if it's born from fear or disgust.(...)
I know that your childhood was chaotic, that as a child you searched for the meaning of your existence amidst a taciturn father who spoke in grunts and an obedient and invisible mother according to what you’ve said. And like a desperate cry for attention, you have shaped, Frankenstein-like, a monster! (...)"
