Donald Trump has decided to give international financial markets some breathing room by announcing a 90-day pause in the trade war he started.
The U.S. president announced that most countries affected by the new tariff policy would benefit from a cap on customs duties at 10%, while China will now face tariffs of 125%.
This decision comes shortly after Beijing retaliated against U.S. tariffs by imposing 87% duties in return.
"I have authorized a 90 day PAUSE, and a substantially lowered Reciprocal Tariff during this period, of 10%, also effective immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Following the announcement, financial markets rebounded, with the president praising other countries' willingness to negotiate rather than impose reciprocal tariffs.
