Donald Trump has said that the United States could quickly withdraw from its role as a mediator in the Ukraine conflict if Kyiv and Moscow do not begin making the process easier.
Speaking to reporters, the U.S. president did not give a specific timeline for a potential ceasefire but expressed hope that an agreement could be reached soon.
His comments came just hours after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that Washington would step away from the negotiations if “nothing happens.”
Several rounds of talks between Russian and American delegations have taken place in Saudi Arabia, but so far, no concrete outcomes have been achieved.
While the Trump administration initially voiced confidence in securing a temporary ceasefire to allow for continued negotiations, the president is now expressing frustration at the lack of commitment from both sides.
On the Russian side, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated that Russia remains open to dialogue aimed at ending the conflict, which began with its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
