Donald Trump’s niece has claimed that the U.S. president intends to remain in power “for life.”
Currently serving his second term, Trump is constitutionally barred from running for a third, as the U.S. Constitution limits presidents to two terms in office.
In a past interview, the billionaire had hinted he might look for ways to bypass the law and return to power. He later walked back those comments, saying he has no intention of seeking a third term.
However, Mary Trump, the president’s niece, has reignited the conversation, suggesting that her uncle has no plans to give up power.
"That's what Donald certainly has in mind. It's not about whether or not he'll run. It's about whether or not he'll leave. It's more likely that he'll just say, 'I'm president for life and I'm not going anywhere'. And he'll challenge people to get rid of him," she said in an interview with The Telegraph.
Mary Trump, a 60-year-old psychologist and author, has been a frequent critic of her uncle. A vocal supporter of the Democratic Party, she has often spoken about the deep rifts within her family.
