Each Iranian missile salvo costs Israel's defence a fortune

At the start of the week, the Israeli army released the first official figures on the war with Iran and the cost of intercepting Iranian ballistic missiles.

According to the well-informed daily Haaretz, each salvo of Iranian missiles is extremely expensive for the Jewish state. It is even described as a colossal expense. Experts estimate that the cost of each interception salvo can reach one billion shekels, equivalent to more than €245 million. These are certainly impressive figures, but they must of course be weighed against the immense cost of the damage a single Iranian missile could cause if it hit its target in Israel.

Unlike what has been seen so far with Tsahal's Iron Dome air defence system, which was designed to destroy small, unguided targets such as short-range rockets and shells fired from Gaza and Lebanon, most of the defensive effort against the barrage of Iranian missiles falls to the Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 systems, which are much more expensive.
