Elon Musk has fiercely criticized a new piece of legislation backed by Donald Trump, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
The billionaire and Tesla CEO argued that the law will dramatically increase government spending, despite the fact that he had been appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to help reduce federal expenditures.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
Musk had previously voiced concerns about the legislation, claiming it would significantly increase the U.S. deficit.
Last week, the entrepreneur stepped down from his role at DOGE, citing the bill as a key reason — saying it would undermine the cost-cutting efforts his department had been working on.
However, House Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters he had spoken with Musk by phone to explain that the legislation was in line with promises made by Trump during his presidential campaign.
“With all due respect, my friend Elon is terribly wrong about the One Big Beautiful bill. It’s a very important first start. Elon is missing it… I just deeply regret he’s made this mistake,” Johnson said.
