A new type of pavement has just been erected in Epinal in the Vosges (France), giving motorists a hard time. The reason? Its very low height, making it too similar to the road.
A car passing over this (almost invisible) pavement is sure to get a flat tyre. Unaware drivers cannot, in fact, brake in time.
Increased traffic
It was in 2024 that the town of Épinal decided to renovate Alsace Street, a busy thoroughfare used by 10,000 cars every day, reports the media Demotivateur. The aim being to reduce the roadway to comply with road safety standards.
And as Demotivateur points out, the line that continues at the edge of the roadway and ends just as the pavement begins makes the distinction so fine that drivers do not have time to spot it. Damaged rims and a series of punctures, this new device does not appeal to residents, one of whom complained to Actu. “The road has been narrowed since the works. To avoid brushing against cars going up, those going down move to the right. But when the pavement arrives, they don’t always have time to see it and adjust”
Accidents captured
Accidents on this axis have become so frequent that TikTok users have even made compilations of them: proof in images that this pavement leads to violent impacts and sometimes irreversible damage. A problem that the municipality does not take lightly, as road signs in this area have been significantly strengthened, notably with the installation of a post on the pavement.
