In this European country, several sections of motorway will be accessible at 150km/h as early as next summer (and under certain conditions).

It's the Czech Republic that's raising its motorway speed limit to 150km/h. From summer, drivers in the Czech Republic will be able to hit the pedal and exceed the 130km/h that was previously allowed. The Minister of Transport Martin Kupka explains: "We want to assess how the increase in the limit will be perceived by the public and whether it will result in a higher accident rate."

An experimental phase

For the moment, the project would only concern a section on the D3 between Tábor and České Budějovice, reports L’Automobile magazine. Some precautions will also be taken to reduce any risk of accident: a speed limit subject to traffic density and also to weather conditions. Depending on these factors, the display of the signs will be updated in real time.

In addition, the country's Directorate of Roads and Motorways plans to target other motorway sections that could see their speed limits increase. But for now, let's first experiment.
