Russia has intensified a sabotage campaign against European and American targets on the continent, according to a report by the think tank Centre for Strategic and International Studies.
The number of Russian attacks in Europe nearly tripled between 2023 (12 attacks) and 2024 (34 attacks), according to the CSIS report, adding that these actions "complement Russia's brutal conventional war in Ukraine".
Around 27% of the attacks targeted entities in the transport sector, whereas 27% were aimed at governments and 21% at critical infrastructure and industries, according to the report.
The main weapons used are explosives, blunt or sharp instruments, and cyber attacks. Furthermore, the report notes that the intensification of Russia's sabotage is a response to Western support for Ukraine and the lack of consequences for its actions.
