Musk has officially left Washington and the Trump administration. His role in the government efficiency department has come to an end.

Musk had promised $2 trillion in savings, but he only achieved 170, a result deemed insufficient by the Trump administration. Across both Democratic and Republican media, the opinion is unanimous—DOGE is seen as a complete failure.

Through his mission to lead DOGE, Musk has also lost a lot; his image has been tarnished, and his businesses have been affected by his role within the Trump administration.

For several months now, relations between Trump and Musk have become increasingly strained. On this matter, CNN observed that from 20 January to 4 April, Trump mentioned Musk 40 times on his own Truth Social network, and since 5 April, not a single message about Musk has appeared on the same platform. Another sign of tension: after funding the election campaign with $300 million, Musk openly criticised Trump over a law aimed at funding the reconstruction of the wall on the Mexican border, increasing military spending, but, most notably, further increasing the country's debt.
