During the night of April 5th to 6th, Russia launched a series of missile and drone attacks on Ukraine. The following night was strangely calm.

And according to the analysis of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Moscow might have attacked on the night from Saturday to Sunday in order to experiment with its series of missile attacks and thus enhance their efficiency. Russia could, therefore, be preparing for another large-scale attack in the coming days or weeks.

Why this timing?

The night of complete calm was a first for the Ukrainians since 12 December 2024. Ukraine endured 114 consecutive nights of long-range missile fire from Russia, reports the media L'Indépendant. According to the ISW, the absence of attack greatly concerns Ukrainian officials: Why did it occur following the largest wave of drone or missile strikes in a month? "We still don't know why the Russian forces didn't conduct any long-range strikes following daily attacks since 12 December 2024."

A brief lull, however, since strikes resumed on the Kharkiv region during the night of April 7th to 8th.
