US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he would call his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on Monday, followed by his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymir Zelensky, to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.
"Let us hope that it will be a productive day, that a ceasefire will be declared, and that this very violent war, a war that should never have taken place, will come to an end," he said on the platform Truth Social.
Mr. Trump specified that the call with Mr. Putin would take place on Monday at 10:00 am Washington time (2:00 pm GMT) and that the conversation would focus on "ending the bloodshed" in Ukraine and on trade issues.
The President will then speak with Mr. Zelensky and several NATO leaders, but he didn't reveal who or what time this conversation would occur.
The United States, which plays a mediating role in ending the war, believes that the only way to unblock the situation is a meeting between Trump and Putin.
