Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has criticized the Club World Cup, calling the tournament "pointless" as football teams face increasingly congested calendars filled with matches and competitions.

Speaking to German outlet Die Welt, Klopp expressed frustration over the inaugural edition of the newly expanded tournament, set to take place in the United States under what he described as tough weather conditions. The 58-year-old dismissed the event as lacking relevance and foresight.

It’s a pointless competition. Whoever wins it will be the worst winner of all time because they’ll have played all summer and then gone straight back into the league. There are people who have never been involved in the day-to-day business of football and are now coming up with ideas,” he said.

Klopp also warned that the relentless schedule is putting players’ health at risk, arguing that the lack of rest between seasons would likely lead to a spike in muscular injuries.

It’s too many games. I fear next season we will see injuries like never before. If not then, they’ll come during or after the Club World Cup. There’s no real recovery for those involved, neither physically nor mentally,” he added.
