On Saturday night, Russia launched an unprecedented airstrike against Ukraine. In total, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, Moscow fired 13 missiles and 810 drones.

This was the largest-scale Russian airstrike since the start of the war in February 2022. In Kyiv, the government headquarters and several residential buildings were damaged. The Ukrainian capital was not the only Russian target; other regions of the country were also hit.

This massive attack was denounced by French President Emmanuel Macron this Sunday, stating that France would not stop working to ensure "a just and lasting peace prevails." "Russia is becoming ever more entrenched in the logic of war and terror," he declared.

For its part, Ukraine expects to see new sanctions against Russia following this weekend's chaos. Here's what Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko had to say about it: "The world must respond to this destruction not just with words, but with actions. We must increase sanctions pressure, primarily against Russian oil and gas." She also called for more "weapons" for her army.
