Macron says Putin’s permission not needed to send troops to Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that France, the United Kingdom, and any other willing nations should deploy troops in key regions of Ukraine to help enforce a potential ceasefire agreement.

Speaking to the regional newspaper La Dépêche du Midi and the national daily Le Parisien, Macron revealed that several European and non-European countries have expressed interest in participating in the troop deployment.

The French leader explained that “a few thousand troops” could be stationed in strategic locations across Ukraine to conduct training programs.

Macron also argued that NATO troops could serve as a “security guarantee” as Moscow strongly opposes any foreign military presence in Ukraine.

However, he emphasized that the final decision rests with Kyiv, said: "If Ukraine requests allied forces to be on its territory, it is not up to Russia to accept or reject them."
