Germany's pacifism since the horrors of World War II can no longer withstand international tensions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Its army is set to acquire a formidable weapon.

Fears of a Russian attack are prompting Germany to equip its army with kamikaze drones. These loitering munitions fly for several tens or hundreds of kilometres before hitting their target with an explosive impact, reminiscent of the notorious V1s of World War II. The German Ministry of Defence has confirmed the signing of contracts for such devices. According to the German press, it will be the German companies Helsing and Stark that will supply these drones. The number ordered has not been specified. The Bundeswehr must first become familiar with this type of weapon. Until now, the German army only used drones for reconnaissance or observation roles for ground protection.
