Greenland’s new Prime Minister has made it clear that the island is not for sale, following Donald Trump’s public calls for the United States to take control of the territory.

During a visit to Copenhagen on Sunday, Jens-Frederik Nielsen emphasized the importance of cooperation between Greenland and Denmark.

Speaking alongside Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen — a move seen as a show of unity — Nielsen delivered his remarks as King Frederik of Denmark began a four-day visit to the Arctic territory.

"We will never, ever be a piece of property that can be bought by anyone, and that's the message I think is most important to understand," Nielsen said.

Since returning to the White House, President Trump has stirred outrage in Denmark and Greenland by insisting that the island must become American for "security reasons."

The billionaire has not ruled out military intervention, even as Greenlanders firmly reject becoming part of the United States.
