Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte B Egede, has called on the international community to intervene following Donald Trump's announcement that his national security adviser, Mike Waltz, and Usha Vance, the wife of his Vice President JD Vance, will visit the territory this week.
The two officials will be part of an American delegation that also includes Chris Wright, the Secretary of Energy.
A spokesperson for the Danish police confirmed that additional personnel and sniffer dogs have been deployed in preparation for the visit.
Earlier this week, Donald Trump said: "I think Greenland is going to be something that maybe is in our future."
Earlier this month, Greenlandic political parties united to condemn what they described as American intentions to seize the territory by force, despite it being part of the Danish Crown.
