A young Dutch tourist was seriously injured on Tuesday night in the nightlife district of the Spanish holiday island Mallorca.
The Dutchman had his lung punctured by a man wielding a sharp object in the popular nightlife area Playa de Palma, near a busy café.
The perpetrator had stormed into a café and, without warning, began threatening customers. According to witnesses, he was extremely aggressive and held a sharp object in his hands. Employees eventually managed to eject him from the premises, after which a group of tourists pursued him, fearing he might harm others. In the scuffle that followed, the perpetrator stabbed the Dutchman. The Dutchman was in critical condition for a short time but is now stable.
The suspect is a 44-year-old man of Senegalese descent with a criminal record. He stabbed the victim in the back, most likely with scissors. He was apprehended shortly after and is now in custody, suspected of attempted manslaughter or murder.
