The three children, eight-year-old twins and another aged ten, lived in squalid conditions with no contact with reality in a house in Oviedo, Spain.
The minors were discovered inside a family home situated in the district of Fitoria, a remote rural area of the Asturian capital, Oviedo, Spain. They lived with their parents and were surrounded by animals and excrement. The parents, a 53-year-old German citizen and a 48-year-old American (also of German nationality), are detained at the Guardia Civil barracks, while the children are under the care of the regional government.
When the police intervened and the children were able to come out, "all three began to breathe deeply, as if they had never been outside before", stated Francisco Javier López Lozano, the chief commissioner of the local police of Oviedo, who concluded by saying: "We have dismantled the house of horror".
