Occasionally or several times a week? Many people wonder about the "right" frequency for washing jeans.

It was Levi Strauss who gave birth to jeans at the end of the 19th century. This wardrobe staple is renowned for its timeless aesthetic but also for its great durability... even with regular washing?

As the website Ça m’intéresse indicates, true jeans are made from a durable material that doesn't require hot water for washing. If you opt for machine washing, a low temperature setting can suffice. Additionally, it's recommended to use the "delicate" mode to prevent fabric wear. And what this basic piece of clothing loves the most is hand washing and cold water, a simple act sufficient to preserve the quality and colours. Unless it's stained or its smell is too unpleasant, there's no need for a washing machine.

Another important point: jeans don't fare well in the dryer, so prefer air drying.

Usages and Frequency

The Agency for Ecological Transition, or Ademe, advises, for ecological reasons, wearing your jeans 15 to 30 times before putting them in the wash. However, be careful, if jeans are washed too frequently, their fabric may fade, lose strength and especially stretch out. The aim is to find the right balance between washing rhythm and lifestyle (and ecology).
