Marilyn Birch, a British woman now aged 76, lost her engagement ring in the 1970s. Just when she had resigned herself to the idea that she'd never find it again, the jewellery has resurfaced.

At the time, Marilyn Birch was feeding her cows when she lost her precious ring, which was a bit too big for her finger.

“One Saturday morning, while I was wearing it, I went shopping, then came home and fed the cattle. Once finished, I washed my hands and the ring was gone. I was really upset. It was a symbol of commitment and that symbol had disappeared,” the septuagenarian told BBC. When she noticed the ring was no longer on her finger, she retraced her steps to look for it, but without success.

“Every once in a while, I kept looking, just in case we might see it somewhere. Eventually, we gave up and decided that we would never see this engagement ring again,” added Marilyn.

A treasure hunter

54 years later, Marilyn and her husband Pete decided to seek the services of Keith Phillips, a man who uses a metal detector to explore properties and unearth treasures, according to Demotivateur. Phillips went to the field where the ring had disappeared and... found it! The ring was buried in the field, 20 centimetres deep.
