To achieve a peace deal with Moscow, Kyiv could find itself forced to cede territories. This was stated by the mayor of the Ukrainian capital this Friday on the UK’s public broadcaster BBC

Following the Russian attack on Kyiv which left 12 dead, "this is a scenario. It's unfair but for peace, a temporary peace, it can be a solution, temporary", highlighted Vitali Klitschko. The 53-year-old official, a former boxing champion, however, stated that the Ukrainian population "will never accept an occupation" by the Russians.

Vitali Klitschko is thus one of the few Ukrainian leaders likely to accede to the proposal of US President Donald Trump, which involves ceding certain territories to Moscow. Volodymyr Zelensky, on the other hand, has reiterated that Ukraine will not bend on recognising Crimea as Russian territory. A matter at the heart of tensions.

“It’s all Zelensky’s fault”

For several weeks now, Donald Trump has been trying to get both parties (Russia and Ukraine) to agree. He especially demands that Kyiv make more efforts, asking more concessions from them than from Moscow. And while the occupant of the White House claims to be "very close" to a compromise with the Russians, he doesn't hesitate to place the responsibility for the blockage in negotiations on the Ukrainian president, reports the Belgian media La Libre.
