The events took place in early April. An American woman, living in the city of Pueblo in the state of Colorado, encountered a frightening-looking creature.

Like something out of a nightmare... The Pueblo resident was keen to capture the moment by taking a series of pictures of the animal and sent them all to the local TV station KKTV. Photos that bewildered an entire team of presenters. In the television newscast dated 7th April, just before airing the video of the specimen, the presenter Grace Kraemer said in front of two other journalists: “We have something scary”.

In the images, you could see a creature with a red face, long spindly arms, and black and speckled fur. “What is it?”, one of the journalists present in the studio asked. And the presenter encouraged viewers to determine what type of animal it was.

A fantastical creature... or a sick animal?

As reported by the media outlet Demotivateur, some people thought it might be a badger... While others humorously suggested the theory of a Chupacabra, a mythical creature from Latin American folklore. Among the suggestions put forward were an opossum, a raccoon, or even a wolverine.

According to the team of officials from Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), who analysed the animal's pictures, the mysterious animal could be a raccoon suffering from mange, which is a skin condition caused by parasitic mites. This disease can lead to significant hair loss. “It's hard to be 100% sure, but the use of the forepaws and the size of the animal make us think it's a raccoon”, one of the organisation’s members told KOAA-TV.
