Iran has announced that it will defend itself if attacked by the United States, according to the country's president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
In recent weeks, tensions between the two countries have reached new heights after Donald Trump threatened to "bomb" Iran if Tehran refuses to negotiate a new nuclear deal.
Washington has also accused Tehran of supporting Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have targeted a U.S. aircraft carrier stationed off the coast of the country.
"We do not seek war with any country, but we have no hesitation in defending ourselves, and our readiness and capability in this regard are at the highest level," Pezeshkian told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a phone call, according to Iran's state news agency IRNA.
A U.S. spokesperson reaffirmed the Trump administration’s stance in an email to Newsweek.
