Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned a fiery speech by U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he accused Tehran of fueling instability across the Middle East.
Speaking to journalists during his visit to Saudi Arabia, Trump described Iran as “the most destructive force in the region,” despite ongoing negotiations between the two countries over a new nuclear agreement.
“The fact that the U.S. turns a blind eye to Israel's threats and all the crimes committed by Israel in the region, while trying to portray Iran as a threat, is pure deception,” said Iranian diplomat Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday, according to the Mehr News Agency.
During his remarks, Trump also warned Iran to reach an agreement soon, or face a tougher alternative approach.
“I heard the U.S. president’s remarks last night. Unfortunately, what was presented was a deceitful narrative,” Araghchi continued. “It is the United States, through its sanctions over the past forty-plus years, and with its military and non-military pressures and threats, that has obstructed the progress of the Iranian nation. The true source of Iran’s economic hardship is America and its hegemonic policies imposed on our people.”
