Journaling, we know it! Writing down your thoughts, the good moments of your day, your goals… There’s no shortage of options. But junk journaling is new and, as often is the case, it has become popular on social media.
A mix between a memory book and a mood board, the junk journal is a colourful and unstructured alternative to the classic diary. In a notebook, you stick everything that matters, a cinema ticket, a little love note, an inspiring phrase… A pair of scissors, some glue, and a free evening: the plan is tempting!
Allowing you to affirm your creativity, this new type of journal appeals to the younger generation, but also to their parents, who already familiar with scrapbooking and other creative hobbies. Organised chaos, everything goes, especially what you would usually throw in the bin (hence the word 'junk'). You end up with a diary that reflects who you are between memories, creation, and introspection. And it’s rather therapeutic since you give yourself a real break, away from other distractions.
To start, you first need to find your notebook, recycled, newly purchased or handmade. Then collect what inspires you, what reminds you of a good moment… What you would have thrown away in the past, but now look at with fresh eyes. Next, put it all together, let your inspiration decide and forget any desire for perfection; your "junk journal" will be like you: unique and certainly imperfect. You can venture into a theme, for example, a trip (the one you’ve just experienced or the one you dream of) or a memory journal where you paste, all the little things you want to remember on a daily basis.
And why not turn your little nothings into beautiful memories by keeping your junk journal?
