According to Ukrainian commanders, Russian forces are gathering near the Kharkiv border.
Ukrainian military officials report an increasing concentration of Russian forces near the border with Ukraine’s Kharkiv oblast, which could indicate preparations for an escalation of offensive operations.
“The Russian army is trying to bring its personnel closer to the front line to launch at least limited assault actions. So far, they have not managed to do so,” said Andrii Pomahaibus, chief of staff of the 13th Khartia Operational Brigade, to Suspilne.
“We must remain vigilant along all critical approaches to our forward positions.”
Intense fighting continues in the north of Kharkiv oblast, especially around Vovchansk, a border town where Russia launched an offensive in May 2024. The town, once home to nearly 17,000 residents, has been devastated—satellite and ground reports indicate that 80 to 95% of buildings have been damaged or destroyed.
Pomahaibus noted that Russian forces are particularly concentrated near the state border, suggesting deliberate preparation for a new offensive. The Russian military continues to combine artillery, reconnaissance, strike drones, heavy equipment, and infantry deployments.
