Poland makes the Kremlin leader tremble with its new defence base

In Poland, a new anti-missile defence base is making Moscow tremble. Located 230km from the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, it provokes strong reactions from the Kremlin.

Last November, the base in Redzikowo was inaugurated in Poland, thus completing a set-up already present in Romania, Spain, and Turkey. It's part of an American missile defence system against ballistic missiles, comprising a network of missile interceptors and radars. It's a collective defence project of the Atlantic Alliance that Washington implemented 15 years ago. The aim is to ensure the protection of the Alliance “against ballistic missile threats coming from outside the Euro-Atlantic area, particularly from Iran,” explains BFMTV.

During a ceremony at the Redzikowo base, in front of an assembly of American military leaders and senior Polish officials, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, the Polish Defence Minister, enthusiastically stated: "This is an event of historic importance for the security of Poland, the United States, and NATO."

Appropriate measures

Faced with its deployment in Europe, Russia has always shown hostility, fearing for its security. Despite NATO's statements, assuring that this defence project does not target it at all, the Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, claimed that it's “an advance of American military infrastructure in Europe towards our borders” which will “lead to appropriate measures to ensure parity”.
