The American president has shown renewed interest in taking control of the Arctic territory — even suggesting that a military intervention was "not off the table". An intervention that did not sit well at all with Greenland's Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen.

Speaking out on social media, Nielsen reacted strongly to Trump's statements, emphasising that Greenland's sovereignty is not negotiable.

"President Trump claims that the United States will 'obtain Greenland'. Let me be clear: the United States is not getting it. We belong to no one else. We determine our own future. We must not act out of fear. We must respond with peace, dignity, and unity. And it is through these values that we must clearly, clearly, and calmly show the American president that Greenland is ours. It was like this yesterday. It is like this today. And it is how it will be in the future." wrote Nielsen .
